The Role of Beliefs and Perception on Body Size. Proceedings of the 26th Aschauer Soiree, Held at Aschauhof, Altenhof, Germany, May 26th, 2018
2018 Proceedings of the 26th Aschauer Soiree, AltenhofAltenhof, Germany, 26 May 2018 - 26 May 20182018-05-262018-05-26
Thirty-one scientists met at Aschauhof, Germany to discuss the role of beliefs and self-perception on body size. In view of apparent growth stimulatory effects of dominance within the social group that is observed in social mammals, they discussed various aspects of competitive growth strategies and growth adjustments. [...]

Generalizability vs. Robustness: Investigating Medical Imaging Networks Using Adversarial Examples
2018MICCAI 2018, GranadaGranada, Spain, 16 Sep 2018 - 16 Sep 20182018-09-162018-09-16
In this paper, for the first time, we propose an evaluation method for deep learning models that assesses the performance of a model not only in an unseen test scenario, but also in extreme cases of noise, outliers and ambiguous input data. To this end, we utilize adversarial examples, images that fool machine learning models, while looking imperceptibly different from original data, as a measure to evaluate the robustness of a variety of medical imaging models. [...]

Inherent Brain Segmentation Quality Control from Fully ConvNet Monte Carlo Sampling
2018MICCAI 2018, GranadaGranada, Spain, 16 Sep 2018 - 16 Sep 20182018-09-162018-09-16
We introduce inherent measures for effective quality control of brain segmentation based on a Bayesian fully convolutional neural network, using model uncertainty. Monte Carlo samples from the posterior distribution are efficiently generated using dropout at test time. [...]

Webly Supervised Learning for Skin Lesion Classification
2018MICCAI 2018, GranadaGranada, Spain, 16 Sep 2018 - 16 Sep 20182018-09-162018-09-16
Within medical imaging, manual curation of sufficient well-labeled samples is cost, time and scale-prohibitive. To improve the representativeness of the training dataset, for the first time, we present an approach to utilize large amounts of freely available web data through web-crawling. [...]

Neomento sad-vr treatment for social anxiety
20192019 IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR), San Diego, CASan Diego, CA, USA, 9 Dec 2019 - 11 Dec 20192019-12-092019-12-11
[10.1109/AIVR46125.2019.00054]
We present the neomento project, a solution for virtual reality (VR) exposure therapy (VRET). In our work we have created specific rendering methods and virtual environments (VEs); designed and published a novel form of behavioural control for virtual agents (VA); included biophysiological measurements directly into the experience; and created an asymmetric gameplay system to assure the correct progress of a therapy session. [...]

Structural Subnetwork Evolution Across the Life-Span: Rich-Club, Feeder, Seeder
2018CNI 2018, GranadaGranada, Spain, 16 Sep 2018 - 16 Sep 20182018-09-162018-09-16
The impact of developmental and aging processes on brain connectivity and the connectome has been widely studied. Network theoretical measures and certain topological principles are computed from the entire brain, however there is a need to separate and understand the underlying subnetworks which contribute towards these observed holistic connectomic alterations. [...]

201915th International Symposium on Bioinformatics Research and Applications (ISBRA), BarcelonaBarcelona, Spain, 3 Jun 2019 - 6 Jun 20192019-06-032019-06-06
The lack of well-structured annotations in a growing amount of RNA expression data complicates data interoperability and reusability. Commonly used text mining methods extract annotations from existing unstructured data descriptions and often provide inaccurate output that requires manual curation. [...]
