However, there is little knowledge about the prevalence of these symptoms and their specific characteristics in long-term care. Aims: A differentiated investigation of the prevalence and characteristics of neuropsychiatric symptoms in people with dementia in a long-term care setting. Methods: The prevalence of neuropsychiatric symptoms of people with dementia in a long-term care setting was examined using a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from the research projects LebenQD I and II and FallDem. The data were collected using the neuropsychiatric inventory - nursing home version. The analysis included data from 699 people with dementia from a total of 21 long-term care facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia. Results: The symptoms agitation/aggression (36%), depression/dysphoria (33%), apathy/indifference (33%), irritability/lability (30%) and aberrant motor behaviour show the highest prevalence. The symptoms hallucinations (9%) and euphoria/elation (6%) have the lowest prevalence. Conclusions: The high prevalence of specific neuropsychiatric symptoms and their characteristics in people with dementia illustrates the need for care-related or psychosocial interventions to counteract the reasons for the occurrence of the symptoms. 000269685 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-353$$a353 - Clinical and Health Care Research (POF4-353)$$cPOF4-353$$fPOF IV$$x0 000269685 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, PubMed, , Journals: pub.dzne.de 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aDemenz 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aPrävalenz 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aQuerschnittstudie 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$across-sectional-design 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$adementia 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aneuropsychiatric symptoms 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aneuropsychiatrische Symptome 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$anursing home 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$aprevalence 000269685 650_7 $$2Other$$astationäre Langzeitpflege 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aHumans 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAged 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aFemale 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aMale 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aCross-Sectional Studies 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aGermany 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAged, 80 and over 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aNursing Homes: statistics & numerical data 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aHomes for the Aged: statistics & numerical data 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aLong-Term Care 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aNeuropsychological Tests: statistics & numerical data 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAlzheimer Disease: nursing 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAlzheimer Disease: epidemiology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAlzheimer Disease: psychology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aDementia: epidemiology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aDementia: nursing 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aDementia: psychology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aPsychomotor Agitation: nursing 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aPsychomotor Agitation: epidemiology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aPsychomotor Agitation: psychology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAggression: psychology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aMental Disorders: epidemiology 000269685 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aMental Disorders: nursing 000269685 7001_ $$0P:(DE-2719)2191593$$aHalek, Margareta$$b1$$udzne 000269685 7001_ $$0P:(DE-2719)2451293$$aHolle, Daniela$$b2$$udzne 000269685 7001_ $$0P:(DE-2719)2451281$$aDichter, Martin$$b3$$eLast author$$udzne 000269685 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2077531-3$$a10.1024/1012-5302/a000948$$gVol. 37, no. 3, p. 119 - 129$$n3$$p119 - 129$$tPflege$$v37$$x1012-5302$$y2024 000269685 909CO $$ooai:pub.dzne.de:269685$$pVDB 000269685 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588)1065079516$$6P:(DE-2719)2191593$$aDeutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen$$b1$$kDZNE 000269685 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-2719)2451293$$aExternal Institute$$b2$$kExtern 000269685 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588)1065079516$$6P:(DE-2719)2451281$$aDeutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen$$b3$$kDZNE 000269685 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-353$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF4-350$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF4-300$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF4$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$aDE-HGF$$bGesundheit$$lNeurodegenerative Diseases$$vClinical and Health Care Research$$x0 000269685 9141_ $$y2024 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bPFLEGE : 2022$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bClarivate Analytics Master Journal List$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0113$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0160$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEssential Science Indicators$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0130$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSocial Sciences Citation Index$$d2023-10-24 000269685 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9900$$2StatID$$aIF < 5$$d2023-10-24 000269685 9201_ $$0I:(DE-2719)1610001$$kAG Halek$$lCare Interventions$$x0 000269685 980__ $$ajournal 000269685 980__ $$aVDB 000269685 980__ $$aI:(DE-2719)1610001 000269685 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED
