Methods: To investigate, we analysed data of 3867 respondents (Mean Age: 73.37, SD: 5.57) in the U.S. Health and Retirement Study (HRS) using growth curve and path analysis, adjusted for demographic and health covariates. Results: Being in the high (vs. moderate) Social Deprivation Index group was associated with lower cognition scores (β = -2.63, [95 % CI: -2.90, -2.36]). Conversely, higher (vs. lower) Lifestyle Index scores were associated with higher cognition scores (β = 1.17, [95 % CI: 0.72, 1.63]). In mediation analysis, the Lifestyle Index score explained 27 % of the association of So Dep Index group on cognition at the final follow-up. Discussion: While lifestyle activities did mediate the association between social deprivation and cognition, factors not investigated accounted for the majority of the variation. These may include systemic disadvantages. 000281128 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-353$$a353 - Clinical and Health Care Research (POF4-353)$$cPOF4-353$$fPOF IV$$x0 000281128 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, PubMed, , Journals: pub.dzne.de 000281128 650_7 $$2Other$$adementia 000281128 650_7 $$2Other$$ahealth and retirement study 000281128 650_7 $$2Other$$ainequality 000281128 650_7 $$2Other$$alongitudinal analysis 000281128 650_7 $$2Other$$asocioeconomic status 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aHumans 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAged 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aMale 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aFemale 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aLife Style 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aCognition 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aUnited States 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aRetirement 000281128 650_2 $$2MeSH$$aAged, 80 and over 000281128 7001_ $$0P:(DE-2719)9000725$$aRodriguez, Francisca Saveria$$b1$$eLast author$$udzne 000281128 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2034469-7$$a10.1177/08982643241273988$$gVol. 37, no. 9, p. 555 - 566$$n9$$p555 - 566$$tJournal of aging and health$$v37$$x0898-2643$$y2025 000281128 8564_ $$uhttps://pub.dzne.de/record/281128/files/DZNE-2025-01087.pdf$$yOpenAccess 000281128 8564_ $$uhttps://pub.dzne.de/record/281128/files/DZNE-2025-01087%20SUP.pdf 000281128 8564_ $$uhttps://pub.dzne.de/record/281128/files/DZNE-2025-01087%20SUP.pdf?subformat=pdfa$$xpdfa 000281128 8564_ $$uhttps://pub.dzne.de/record/281128/files/DZNE-2025-01087.pdf?subformat=pdfa$$xpdfa$$yOpenAccess 000281128 909CO $$ooai:pub.dzne.de:281128$$popenaire$$popen_access$$pVDB$$pdriver$$pdnbdelivery 000281128 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588)1065079516$$6P:(DE-2719)9001051$$aDeutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen$$b0$$kDZNE 000281128 9101_ $$0I:(DE-588)1065079516$$6P:(DE-2719)9000725$$aDeutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen$$b1$$kDZNE 000281128 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-353$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF4-350$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF4-300$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF4$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$aDE-HGF$$bGesundheit$$lNeurodegenerative Diseases$$vClinical and Health Care Research$$x0 000281128 9141_ $$y2025 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0130$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSocial Sciences Citation Index$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bJ AGING HEALTH : 2022$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1180$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Social and Behavioral Sciences$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0LIC:(DE-HGF)CCBYNC4$$2HGFVOC$$aCreative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial CC BY-NC 4.0 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0510$$2StatID$$aOpenAccess 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9900$$2StatID$$aIF < 5$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0430$$2StatID$$aNational-Konsortium$$d2024-12-30$$wger 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0160$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bEssential Science Indicators$$d2024-12-30 000281128 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bClarivate Analytics Master Journal List$$d2024-12-30 000281128 9201_ $$0I:(DE-2719)1510900$$kAG Rodriguez$$lPsychosocial Epidemiology and Public Health$$x0 000281128 980__ $$ajournal 000281128 980__ $$aVDB 000281128 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED 000281128 980__ $$aI:(DE-2719)1510900 000281128 9801_ $$aFullTexts
