AB  - Global societies face unprecedented challenges as populations age. The ability to navigate is central to nearly all meaningful activities in which older adults participate, promoting both independence and health. Loss of navigation ability is associated with early-stage age-related brain and body disorders. To address the diverse challenges associated with aging populations, tools must be developed to maintain, support, and assess navigation in real-world applications—tools grounded in reliable and valid research. This chapter presents the “Triadic Navigation Framework,” a platform that can be used to guide and stimulate translational navigation research in aging. Its intent is to foster deeper consideration of research design, enhance collaboration among researchers working across species, and better identify the real-world needs of aging populations that research must address. Opportunities for future work are highlighted, as are recommendations to enhance navigation research quality.
