Abstract: Knowledge Discovery and AI approaches for the Life Sciences is a widely used approach for several topics. The goal of this chapter is to give a short and understandable introduction to the foundations with examples and perspectives for these fields. We heavily focus on Knowledge, Knowledge Discovery and methods to be used in this context. We will discuss Knowledge representation, e.g. with XML and JSON, introduce some AI approaches, and finally discuss the impact on personalized medicine as an example use case within life sciences.
