Abstract: Introduction: One important aim of nursing interventions is themaintenance and promotion of their Quality of Life (QoL), espe-cially with regard to the psycho-social aspects. Therefore, QoL is awidely selected outcome in intervention studies. In the scientific liter-ature there is an enormous number of different standardised QoL-instruments. The QUALIDEM (Ettema et al., 2007) is a standardisedQoL-measurement from the Netherlands which has especially beendeveloped to measure the QoL of people suffering from dementia. In2008 the QUALIDEM was translated into German. Until now, therehas been no evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Germanversion available. The aims of this study are the evaluation of thehomogeneity and the construct validity of the German version of theQUALIDEM.Methods and Materials: A secondary data analysis will be per-formed on the basis of two data sets from research projects using theQUALIDEM as an outcome measure of 486 residents with dementia,in German nursing homes. The evaluation of the construct validity isbased on a factor analysis and a comparison of QoL with challeng-ing behaviour (Neuropsychiatric-Inventory, NPI-NH). Within thefactor analysis the nine factors of the Dutch version of the QUALI-DEM will be evaluated. For the homogeneity evaluation of theresulting factors Cronbach’s alpha will be calculated. Results: The results of the construct validity and homogeneity willbe presented. Data analysis will be finished in March 2010.Conclusion: Based on the results an estimation of the constructvalidity and the homogeneity of the German version of the QUAL-DEM is possible. Furthermore, it is possible to provide informationfor the further application of the QUALIDEM in research projects.
