Abstract: A balanced and fine-tuned ratio of neuronal excitation and inhibition is a prerequisite for information processing. In this issue of Neuron, He et al. (2022) reveal a causal link between reduced input to local somatostatin-expressing, MeCP2-negative O-LM interneurons in CA1 and long-term memory impairment in a mouse model of Rett syndrome.
